This project relies heavily on AI. Honestly, without recent advancements in artificial intelligence, I doubt I could have built the website you’re seeing today—or at least not nearly as quickly or easily.
We use AI every day for research and writing. What used to take months can now be done in seconds. In legal research especially, AI has been a complete game-changer.
The website itself is a highly advanced content management system. Without AI, it would’ve taken a team of skilled developers weeks—or more—to create what I was able to build in just a couple of months, working part-time.
To be clear, I’m not a developer or a tech expert. I don’t have formal training, a degree, or certificates in technology. This project started with me and others who had friends or family members who were incarcerated. We began sharing information, resources, and ways to help our loved ones—and the idea grew. Today, our network includes contacts in multiple states and continues to expand.
Our first website served its purpose, but it was built on low-end servers without any real management tools. It was all cut, copy, and paste—very basic. Over the past few months, I’ve focused on learning how AI can take us to the next level. The goal is bigger now: to become a true voice for prison reform, unite people behind meaningful legislative change, and connect quality legal counsel with those who need it most.
That’s why we launched our new Attorney Directory, which should be fully operational by the end of the month.
We also completely rebuilt our forms system.
As well as the community forum.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring over old records—our new setup is completely different, and it would’ve required an unrealistic amount of work. I know that was disappointing for many, and I’m sorry to those who expected the data to carry over. I’m still learning as I go, and I never imagined our old site traffic could overwhelm our little server—but it did.
Those days are behind us. There will be challenges, and I won’t always have the answers right away, but I’ll keep learning and improving. I do this on my own time, outside of a full-time job, and I don’t earn a dime from it. But because of AI, our system’s power and performance have increased a thousandfold—and that’s a win I’m proud of.
To everyone who shares our mission and vision, welcome. Together, we can make a real difference.
